Psalmist with a camera

Around the World in half an hour!

Busy busy day with much to do but all work and no play has got to be the best piece of advice ever!! No dull moments here.

We set a deadline and were determined to enjoy the extra holiday so headed out for lunch at one of my favourite restaurants....Lemon Grass...totally Thai!!! Came away with a doggy bag...eyes bigger than tums on this occasion...so tomorrow's dinner will be easy to prepare!!

Out to Mirdif to visit a friend and wish her Happy New Year/Diwali...she is Muslim and her husband Hindu so with both celebrations coming together this year...it made entertaining somewhat easier. Tea and sweets....mega sweets later...we headed back intending to be home before dusk.

The choice of routes led us past the very first park I ever visited in Dubai and because of its location, had only revisited once, so curiosity got the better of us and we duly turned in for a reccy!!

It sits on the fringe of the desert and must be the only really traditional park left in Dubai. No lush green grassy swathes to sit on...its back to the ancient bedouin heritage of sand amidst well established ghaf trees. Entertainment is a small equestrian stable block and a few exotic birds in a large aviary. A swimming pool lies hidden amongst the foliage and scattered round the central area is a children's paradise known as 'International World.' Beautiful minature dwellings representing cultural habitats from across the globe....each one like an exquisite 'wendy house' just waiting for wee families to inhabit them!!

So thrilled it hasn't changed a bit!!! and the majority of folk who frequent it are local Emiratis who still have traditional values intact and require nothing more than a clump of trees, a space on the sand, a well fired barbeque and a coffee pot forever on the brew!

We're out there to join them next week......watch this space!

Enjoy your weekend
