Sunbeams

A sacred plant of witches

Ivy (Hedera Helix) used in witchcraft is also the emblem of fidelity. Newly weds long ago were presented with sprays of Ivy by the priest at the marriage ceremony. Christians put an end to this because of its pagan association. The leaves were also used for crowning a poet.

Walking along the garden hedge I was suddenly aware of a strong smell of honey and sure enough it was the Ivy in full flower. I have never been aware of this scent before.
