Leaning Toward the Light

The last significant rainstorm in Sonoma County was on December 23, 2012. Although we have been having beautiful, warm sunny weather, which I find it hard to complain about, we should have had 2 1/2" of rain since July 1st. It does seem, from looking through the entries in the Lovers of Light category, that the most spectacular pictures have been of clouds, which are in very short supply here. However, I was struck this morning on our walk through the field, by the oak trees leaning over the dry creek bed toward the light, providing some interesting lines and shadows. Clouds, but no rain are predicted for early in the week.

There was an article in the newspaper this morning (yes, I still enjoy reading an old fashioned newspaper, although it doesn't take long in its current shrunken state) about the current state of Lake Mendocino. It was accompanied by a picture of dry earth bisected by a few puddles and rivulets--all that remains now of a huge lake on which there is normally fishing, boating and water skiing. In the foreground, perched on the cracked earth is a buoy reading "NO BOATS".
