A Short Walk in the Park

It's been a long time since we went to Spring Lake. Due to the lack of rainfall, the algae in the lake has bloomed, and it has turned very green. Still pretty to look at, but not desirable for Ozzie to swim in. Since he doesn't make such fine distinctions on water quality, he would just 1) go in anyway or 2) lengthen OilMan's left arm or 3 )pull OilMan's arm out of the socket So today we decided to take the upper equestrian trail around the lake, keeping ourselves well away from the water. This little boy and his mother were chatting away with each other in Spanish, which made us both smile. Such a nice contrast to all the women pushing a stroller, or walking with a child whilst ignoring her charges completely in favor of her cell phone.

Although the weather hasn't changed yet, there are rumors that the high pressure off the coast might lift further north allowing the "storm door" to open. In other words, it might rain by Monday. Inspired by the thought of long rainy evenings, I went out in search of a yarn shop today and hit the jackpot--a wonderful shop called Castaways in Railroad, Square, the "old town" section of Santa Rosa. After a pleasant hour chatting with the knowledgeable women there, I came home with a book of interesting patterns, and a bulging bag of wool.

Until the storm door does open, OilMan has instituted a cocktail hour under the arbor, next to the fire in the little firepit on legs which he bought on one of his forays to the home improvement store (Today he came home with three brooms and a little bag to carrying his irrigation bits and pieces around). He is up there making his little fire now, and my instructions are to bring wine....
