El Dokki Street Market, Cairo

Nice to have Bb here and we went to the Yemeni restaurant I found last weekend for lunch - success! It was a late start to the day, what with him not getting to the flat till 3.30am and with the building site work opposite going on all night long. Wandered around these little streets of El Dokki, which are lined with fruit and vegetable stalls and little shops and I asked Bb to grab one of me here, just for the record, to show that I do actually see the daylight sometime here! Tonight we went out for dinner with our assessor, Bb, myself, Nick, Doaa and Doaa's sister and we went to Abou el Sid, a well-known Egyptian restaurant in Zamelek, where we tucked into a selection of mezzo, including baba ganoush and little stuffed vine leaves and the famous dessert, Om Ali, which tastes a bit like bread and butter pudding - delicious. Here's the story of the dessert: Om Ali . Off to bed now and it's looking good so far - no sound of generators, cranes or cement mixers from you know where! Another busy day tomorrow with the assessor being win us. Cant believe it's the start of week 4 already. It's gone in too fast this time!
