Silver linings

Around the Belair National Park are a series of gates and they are all numbered. Our favourite entrance is # 6, and there is a pedestrian gate through which you walk, then you cross the railway line, and then you are in the Park. The track to the tank is wonderful for flora and for birds. I wrote some weeks ago about the idyllic walk I had along this trail.

So, today we took the car up to Gate 6, and what did we find? The Railways Department (B******s) had chained it up and put a notice on to the effect that it was now locked because of the risk to human life! What utter crap. Actually it's not crap really, because you could get run over by a train. The likelihood of this happening is about 6 million to one, but it could happen.

We did consider climbing the barbed wire fence, but common sense prevailed and we took the car back a couple of gates and walked in.

Here's where the silver lining comes in. We walked through an area of grassed grey box forest which was absolutely delightful. Many butterflies, and some flowers, but the best thing I saw were the grasses. There was a light breeze blowing and the grasses (mostly native) looked amazing glowing in the sunshine.

It's all about the detail.

The Rower was also happy because we found a feral bee hive in a hollow tree. It was fascinating, but I'll let him tell you all about it.
