Sea-sideways

Weymouth is rather great. A nice beach with nice dogs running around on it (1st October to 30th April only). Beautiful coastline....

We went to see Lulworth Cove (C is a geographer by education and, apparently, no geographer is allowed to come within 30 miles of Lulworth without visiting the cove). It's a bit of a tourist trap and, even in November, there were lots of cars in the car park near the Visitor Centre and the Tea Rooms. The trek to the cove was surprisingly far and up a steep path. This was explained after a mile or so when we arrived at, not Lulworth Cove but Durdle Dor. This was rather impressive itself (a giant arch standing in the sea). We retraced our steps and, about 100m the other side of the car park was Lulworth Cove. C was able to give a full explanation of the geological factors that had shaped the cove. In this she relied (slightly) on her recollections of her degree and (much more heavily) on the information board that she read just before giving me the lecture.
