Gartmorn Dam

Although we do visit this local nature reserve regularly, it's been a while since I'd actually walked all the way around Gartmorn Dam. It's a very pleasant and easy 3 mile walk with loads to entertain energetic 11 year olds, so on the spur of the moment we headed off for a circuit around the Dam for 'something to do'.

On reading some of the information panels around the paths I realised that three of my blips this week all link to the same subjects. The Dam itself was built by the Sixth Earl of Mar, whose townhouse featured in my blip yesterday. I also posted earlier in the week about the "Waggon Way" that the collieries based around the Dam would use to transport the coal down to Alloa Harbour.

But the most interesting thing Euan found on the walk was this tree that extended out from the shore across the water. Of course, it had to be climbed - he's a boy and as he said, "boys have to climb trees".
