Council House

Today I was on a Safeguarding Course. Schools, academies and colleges have a statutory responsibility for “safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people” (Education Act 2002). It's an important topic and although difficult and challenging in practice, it is one which as a Senior Leader in School, I need to be briefed on regularly. Thankfully in our school, we rarely encounter neglect or child protection issues, but I know as a school we have robust reporting, recording and reviewing systems.

The venue for the course was in the heart of Birmingham city centre, at the Council House. It is a beautiful Grade II* listed building, boasting some of the city's most talked about design. Since its opening, this venue has received and welcomed members of the Royal family, world leaders, media and film stars, people from the literary world and every type of business and organisation.

The Banqueting Suite, where the session was held, combines traditional Victorian elegance with flexible space, ideal for conferences, weddings and events. The ambience of the rooms reflect the sophistication and charm of the 19th century.

A beautiful setting.
