Why did the chicken try to cross the ditch?

After lunch passed the sitting room window to see one of the girls on the other side of the fence (in the forest) doing a dance, clearly trying to pick up courage to fly over it. She is on a rise, and between her and the fence, a 5 ft ditch. Grabbed the camera just in time to take the left & center photos (through the window). She didn't make it, landing in the ditch which although full of water also covered in weeds so she stayed afloat.

Dashed out to see her simply sitting there not moving an inch or uttering a sound. Over the fence, tried poking her with a stick but she hardly moved. Then sent Flash around and he went in the ditch, placed his nose on her body and eventually managed to get her to crawl out, giving a friendly nudge from behind. She then hid in the brambles, again not moving so thinking she may be injured went out and picked her up. On returning to solid ground, let her go and she merrily charged off in the direction of food. She lives, hopefully to lay another egg.

The fog kindly wished on us yesterday by a fellow Bliper (will not mention her name) arrived at sunrise and stayed all day. However despite the thermometer only getting up to 3°C it really didn't feel that cold. Maybe yesterdays sunshine was having a back-burn effect. We still haven't had a proper frost this autumn.

Now waiting for Angie to come home. She says there is an international football match tonight. As I am an English supporter (even if I can only name 2 players) it is not a game I want to see or better said, I don't want to be on the losing side, yet again. Understand Germany are only fielding a side from the Hamburg South regional 4th division league so I'll probably do some ironing and listen to a bit of radio.

Have a good day in England, once you have drowned your sorrows.
