Fun Night at the "Popsicle Pavillion"

"The Weill Hall is known for its classical concerts, but last night was a change of pace. Looking out on the world -class concert hall, Lovett drawled, 'This whole place was made out of popsicle sticks' as a student project. Then he grinned and added it was a step up from the halls he played in Texas as a youth." -The Press Democrat

When we arrived last night, the hall was dramatically bathed in blue lights with the almost full moon streaked with dark clouds behind it. Last time we were there was just over a year ago, and as we made the same walk, it was also a full moon, and it was just beginning to dawn on us that there were a lot of people there who, unlike us, were very dressed up.

Last night was a bit more relaxed. It was a casual crowd and we fit in just fine with the cowboy hats and jeans. OilMan,, kicked things off by dropping his entire plasticglass of beer on the stone floor as he was taking his first sip. Someone arrived almost immediately with towels, and encouraged OilMan to get off his knees and stop trying to wipe up the mess with a handful of cocktail napkins.

We have followed Lyle Lovett, with Jim and Dana, whose son's middle name is Lyle, since they first saw him in Chicago before they were married. This is the first time we've seen him with John Hiatt and they proved to be quite a pair. Although they sometimes tour together, they don't travel together, and claim that the only time they ever get to talk to each other is when they are onstage. The sold out crowd loved the banter and the songs, and it was a great evening.

The rain finally arrive this morning, and it has been raining all day. I really didn't want to go outside, so I put together this collage in an attempt to illustrate an evening when I had already posted a blip and couldn't post a picture of the "Popsicle Pavillion".
