Aşure Month

We are not a very traditional family but sometimes small acts of tradition, such as preparing and distributing "aşure" on Aşure Month, makes us remember our roots and pass tradition on to next generations. Although preparing aşure was a tradition, we still didn't comply to the customary rules of aşure making (such as praying when preparing or putting hazelnuts in) and we put them in mugs. Normally aşure's are made in large pots which are not very useful because even if you want just a spoonful of aşure you have to commit to eating a whole pot-full. So our kind of aşure was a more modern and useful version(with no hazelnuts)and I believe that this photo symbolizes how modernization does not destroy tradition. Tradition evolves with modernization.
