Mitre Peak

Back Blip

This a shot of Mitre Peak, in the centre, and it rises 1,692 metres above the sound.

After two nights is Queenstown, my friends from the UK and myself headed for Milford Sound on our fast but wonderful trip around the South Island. We had another wonderful sunny day and it was really warm with no wind.

We stopped in Te Anau for a short brake and to pick up some lunch. The trip though to Milford was wonderful with many stops and lots of photos taken. Once we reached Milford Sounds we headed for the sailing boat that we were going on for a trip around the Fiord. What a perfect day it was, normally it is raining. The annual rainfall is around 6,813 mm (268 in) a year, so we were so lucky!

Milford Sound is a fjord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island, within Fiordland National Park, Piopiotahi (Milford Sound) Marine Reserve, and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. It has been judged the world's top travel destination in an international survey (the 2008 Travelers' Choice Destinations Awards by TripAdvisor) and is acclaimed as New Zealand's most famous tourist destination. Rudyard Kipling had previously called it the eighth Wonder of the World. Taken from.
