The allotments

Some friends of ours in South London have been on the waiting list for an allotment for years, and it doesn't look like they will be getting one any time soon. By contrast, in our village this field has been set aside for allotments but is less than a quarter used. Perhaps our friends could take an allotment here, so long as they don't mind a 120 mile round trip every time they want to water their carrots? Whenever I walk past I always think this corner looks cosy; I can just imagine the owner putting on the kettle and settling down in that chair for a two-pipe meditation!
