Eleventh Air Force Memorial

From the plaque at the base of the memorial:

Inscribed here are the names
of those airmen from the Eleventh Air Force,
Fleet Air Wing Four,
and Royal Canadian Air Force
who died or suffered captivity
in the defense of Alaska
while serving in the Aleutian Islands
during World War II.

It is little known or recognized that the Aleutian Islands of Alaska were attacked by the Japanese in World War II. This memorial is located on the south side of Merrill Field, Anchorage, Alaska.

You can see that the wind is up today. Those are lenticular clouds created by high attitude prominent winds. As the wind crosses over the mountains a strong upward condition is created that forms those lens like clouds.

The flag on the right is the Alaska state flag. The flag under the US flag is the MIA POW flag.

(What about my photo assignment? Shoot what you like, shoot what makes you feel good.)

Edit: The initial post was in B&W, but I think I may be overdoing the B&W thing, made the memorial too dreary, but maybe it should be. Changed it back to color, much brighter, but maybe too bright. Tell me which one you like better, that is, if you are reading this.

Edit #2: The B&W has edged out slightly, so changed it back. Here is the link to the color image. This is like a group blip, or a blip by committee. Is this blip legal? It is helpful! Thanks. Tomorrow's Home School Bliphoto assignment: shoot the sky.
