Drawing Tour 2 - 23rd November 2013

Today saw the second Absent Voices drawing and walking tour of Greenock's historic A-listed Sugar Sheds. Here we have one of the artist's-in-residence Annie McKay discussing the work of some of the enthusiastic participants.

The weather was kinder but colder this weekend, better sunshine and less wind which made the walking and drawing part much more pleasant, especially when standing out in the sun.

We are continually making more contact with people who know people who worked in the sugar industry and we are in the process of setting up informal interview and story telling session with these people so that their voices will not be absent for much longer.

Some quotes from our participants today:

"Really interesting project, enjoyed the drawing and feeling of the place".

Thanks very much, very interesting, learned lots about teh building and found out I can draw better than I thought"

"Great idea. thoroughly enjoyed the walk/talk getting the history. A step in the right direction to getting the sugar sheds back in the spotlight"

"Didn't know what to expect and was a bit bewildered at first, but then realised this was a chance to inhabit and enjoy these wonderful surroundings. Much thanks for all the support and encouragement from the artists!.
