Quiet Covent Garden

To give Daddy some peace and quiet we headed into London early this morning. So early that Covent Garden was all but deserted. The market traders were only just arriving and the shops were shut. Actually it was great because the kids could run around going 'Oo' and 'Ah' at the Christmas decorations, without me worrying about losing them or them getting in the way of people.

We were first into the Transport Museum when it opened. Spent two hours wandering around getting stamps on their sheets, driving tubes, driving buses and generally finding out about escalators and tunnels and all things London transport.

Lunch was had at Pizza Express. They both demolished their piccolo menu, William even ate the tomatoes, cucumber and pepper that came with the dough balls! He refuses to touch them when I put things like that in front of him.

From there we wandered over Waterloo Bridge to Southbank and the German Christmas Market. Lovely smells, some nice stalls and lots of tat, but handicapped with two small children and big crowds we came home empty handed. From Southbank we wandered past The Eye, over the river, past The Palace of Westminster and up Whitehall to see the soldiers on the horses.

Two tired children then choose the tube over the bus (thankfully as I knew it was a fair walk to a bus stop going in the right direction) so at Leicester Square we called it a day and headed home. Tea was eaten on the train on the way home and they were quickly to bed tonight without any silliness.

Meanwhile I have a cold that I wish would go away. Haven't got time for it and one poorly adult in this family is more than enough thank you!
