Day 50 – Chateau St Louis, Quebec City

Today we visited the Chateau St Louis which was destroyed in a fire in the 1830’s. It was formerly the residence of the Lieutenant Governor (the Crown’s representative in Canada). The Chateau is now below the boardwalk of Quebec City as it is only the foundations and courtyard that remain. It looked a great place, just in front of what is now the Chateau Frontenac with great views of the St Lawrence. This photo shows a large icehouse in the kitchen which was filled with ice in the winter and would last all the way through to the end of summer!
