The Glorious Quilters of Yuma

Many capable
hands provide some comfort for
those with special needs.

Last winter I joined a group of very dedicated, giving women at the Lutheran Church in my neighbourhood. I was looking for a group to quilt with and I certainly found one. This is an eclectic group of locals and snowbirds from various parts of Canada and the United States. Our common goal is to take donated fabrics and turn them into quilts for people who could use a fabric 'hug'.
Two ladies from the church (Marilyn and Ruth) keep everything going. They fit a person to every job that's needed every Monday morning. Fabric is cut into simple squares, arranged in a pattern, sewn together to make a quilt top and the top is layered with batting, sewn again, turned right side out and tied with yarn. The group works better than the Ford assembly line! Quilts are given to seniors in care facilities, children in foster care, veterans in hospital, cancer patients in recovery...
