Red Kites

We were at the Red Kite feeding and rehabilitation centre at Gigrin Farm near Rhayader today. It was cold and clear, perfect for seeing the Red Kites. It costs £4.50 for an adult, which is excellent value. We got there about 13:15 and the kites were already circling nearby. We were down in the hides before the feeding time of 14:00 and had a hide to ourselves. They throw beef on the ground and the birds swoop down at speed; 1/800 was too slow to stop the motion. Apparently, there were between 300 and 350 Red Kites today and these are some of them.
