A protected area

In the March of 1940 almost one third of Scotland was declared a Protected Area under wartime defence regulations. The landmass North and West of the Highland Fault including all islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides became a controlled zone with special passes being required to travel within the area and certificates of residence required by people living there.
