Blue ribbon

It's job done, a blue ribbon cut to happy cheers lays curled up on the ground in a pleasingly random pattern.

The kids primary school officially opened it's rather splendid new extension, a cleverly designed and beautifully built building that could be straight out off Grand Designs TV series. A long blue ribbon (the school uniform colour) was pinned up, all the school and a good few parents gathered, a few short speeches, and then snip! Three cheers, applause, smiles all round, and we all mingled about, many having a bit of cake too. No doubt the scene was essentially similar to what happened a century or so ago when the original Victorian school building was opened. In these days of Government education budget cuts, new build school buildings are disgracefully rare, so it struck me that I was really at quite a historic moment in the school's history.
