Part of the story

The Spinnaker Reach apartments occupy an enviable position at the water's edge in the centre of Batemans Bay. In the heydey of the timber industry in the region, a busy sawmill stood on the site; before that, it had for centuries been an Aboriginal shell midden. A friend from our Canberra years once owned one of the apartments, and kindly allowed us the use of it for holidays a couple of times, feeding our liking for the town which led to us eventually retiring here. Our friend has written his memoirs, which he plans to publish as a limited-edition book for distribution among his sizeable extended family. He mailed the manuscript to me this week after asking me to run my editor's eye over it. I must say, from an initial quick thumb through, that he has done a remarkably good job.
