Kiwi!

Had another quick walk on the beach at Sunset Point before leaving Hokitika this morning. Set off south down the coast, stopping a couple of times on the way to look at the wild sea (and the wild weather - it was absolutely chucking it down). Stopped for lunch at Lake Wahapo, then carried on to Franz Josef, taking a slight detour to Okarito just before we got there. We got out for a walk on the beach - wild and strewn with driftwood again - and got caught in a huge downpour just before we made it back to the car.

Arrived in Franz Josef mid-afternoon and checked into our motel, then popped over to the i-Site to try and find out if our glacier walk tomorrow would be going ahead given the weather (they advised us to check again in the morning) - then went to a café for another great NZ coffee.

Cooked a delicious chilli in our room (a brimful pan on a tiny two-ring burner), then enjoyed the evening's entertainment of the most dramatic thunderstorm (the thunder rolling around the mountains all around us was phenomenal), complete with a mega downpour of hailstones.
