Fox Glacier

Brilliant day today! We started off with a visit to the West Coast Wildlife Centre, where we got to see kiwis galore. We paid extra for the 'backstage pass,' so that after we had walked through the kiwi enclosure and seen a one-year old and three one-month old kiwis (so cute!), we also got a tour of the incubation area, and got to see a two-week old chick, 'Oscar.' Such a treat - and I really, really want that job, living in a beautiful part of a beautiful country, raising little kiwi babies!

We went to the i-Site and discovered that our glacier walk was going ahead (despite all the rain), so after a quick lunch at Full of Beans, we got all our stuff together and drove over to Fox. Quite a long walk to the glacier itself, with lots of interesting information from our guide along the way. Had a beautiful walk on the glacier, with torrential rain on and off - and got to see a couple of very dramatic rock slides, thankfully quite a long way from where we were!

Managed to twist my ankle again on the way back to the bus - it just went from under me and I went flying into a puddle. Very painful, and I had to try my best not to cry on the bus! It felt a bit better later though and a big hot bowl of free soup back at the hostel helped a lot.
