Pies

Now why do I try a type of pastry for the first time ever when making a gift for someone else?

Our Catalan-conversation-on-a-Friday friend has invited us for lunch today, so I thought I'd make her some mince pies using a sweet pastry recipe with orange zest and egg. It's a bit of a nightmare to work with but thank goodness it tastes ok - well I had to test it, right?

I wonder what's for lunch? Hopefully not snails or pigs' trotters!

p.s. I've just noticed that crack in the pastry.

Edit: Lunch for the record
- green olives, crisps, smoked salmon croutons
- creamy vegetable soup in a delicate pink shade
- little bits of bacallà (salt cod) with red pepper and black olives (eaten with the soup)
- thick slices of veal with a fruit salsa of apple, pine nuts, prunes and sultanas
- fresh fruit
- mince pies, chocolate
- cava, vi negre, mistela, café
