a little bit of rhubarb

A full-on day, starting with late breakfast out at Lou Jack’s, followed by coffee with the Lovely Luisa. The three of us then formed part of the sell-out, mass Saint Benedict of Cumberbatch Appreciation Session at the cinema, with the screening of the National Theatre’s 2011 production of Frankenstein. This was version 1, with Cumberbatch as the Creation and Jonny Lee Miller as Frankenstein - being run as part of a series on offer for the National Theatre's 50th.

I’ve got to say the secondary cast members were somewhat lacking, and it was apparent that someone thought that damn faux-steam train was a roaringly good idea and they were going to shoehorn it into the production come hell or high water… but hell, who cared! It had:

1. Benedict for the Cumberb*tches/Cumbercollective, whichever name you subscribe to);

2. Miller for his rabid groupies – do they have a name? (not pointing the finger at one of my companions at all here…)

3.Fabulous set design, lighting and score.

In summary: beyond brilliant. So much to look at, and superb acting. You lot in the UK have no idea how lucky you are to be able to go and watch these productions live – now get off your bums and go and support your national theatre!

Post-screening coffee and an early dinner, then off again down to the opera house to see Bell Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors. My brain protested at having two highbrow activities crammed into one day, but it couldn’t be helped….
