Mission San Xavier del Bac

In the center is, in fact, San Xavier del Bac.

The mission itself was founded by the Jesuit missionary Fr. Eusebio Kino in 1692. Fr. Kino's influence is found all over the Tucson metro area (Kino Pkwy, Kino Hospital, Kino Stadium...).

The present church was built under the direction of the Franciscans. Construction began in 1783 and was completed in 1797. The church continues to serve as a parish for the Tohono O'odham people and a shrine for visitors.

It has been declared a National historic Landmark.

(This may look a little off but behind the alter the wall is formed into a recessed arc/half-circle)

There is also a Mission school on the reservation and my Eastern States Club will be having a Christmas party for the children from the 1st through 5th grades in the coming week. I am looking forward to it.
