Cuisine

Living in a city full of Michelin starred restaurants, 5* hotels and great local eateries you can be forgiven for believing that it is impossible to have a bad meal in Kobe. Today tested this hypothesis with a foray into the world of the 'Standing Bar!'

Standing bars are a feature of Japanese life; known as tachinomiya. These are small, standing-room-only bars that provide a quick drink and a bite to eat on the way home (or on the way to another Tachinomiya!) Drinks are generally inexpensive (partially due to cheaper taxes on bars with no seats) and food is small bite sized dishes, similar to tapas.

This evening was spent in a very cheerful standing bar and the food was pretty good until this arrived. Those of you familiar with the variety of dog and cat food served in trays will understand why I was a little reluctant to try this particular serving of sardines although I am told it was ok… Regardless of the food, we had en evening filled with a huge helping of happiness, so I can't be too picky! Two more 'get ups' Blippers!

A good cook is like a sorceress who dispenses happiness.
