Doing time

I was given early release yesterday from my week of jury service. Today, by coincidence, I passed Saughton Prison, on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Inevitably, I thought about the (all male and mainly young) remand prisoners I encountered earlier in the week. Rightly or wrongly, for some of them this is going be their address for the foreseeable future.
