At home: Pegs and holes...x

The children found this old game of Mastermind in the cupboard. The lid was missing, perhaps left behind in the hurry to extract the box from under the other games.

They had no idea how to play, and what to do with the pieces. I was equally in no rush to explain the game either. I love the way children can become inventors within seconds. Firstly the pegs became a series of people, divided into family members. They latterly, reorganised into a filled, colourful pattern on the peg board.

I wondered whether, if I had explained the rules of the Mastermind game, whether the concept would have entertained them for longer than their own imaginations....

Maybe not......x
