Maestro

Another musical day today, which I decided to bring my cold along to.

An ex-member of the music group has been running a series of what he calls Sunday Symphony sessions. Over a period of quite a few months he's shared the experience of watching recordings of performances of all the Beethoven and Schumann symphonies by the German Chamber Philharmonic conducted by Paavo Järvi (staged in what looks like a warehouse building in Bremen). Today we reached the final instalment of the Schumann series with a performance of his Fourth Symphony.

Bernard had timed things to finish close to Christmas and invited us and our friends to stay on afterwards for a bit of Christmas cheer. We had a great day, with much food, drink and chat. Carl made an appearance, and he and I and one other were the last to leave. We got a taxi to The Yacht pub in Clontarf for a few follower-uppers, he got the DART home to Glasthule and I took my cold back to my place by taxi.

The blip shows Bernard having a go at the brand-new cello which Séamus, a member of the music group, purchased last week while in Chicago. It's a fine instrument. Now Seamus had to learn to play it. We told him today that we expect a recital by tis time next year.
