Nuts about….

… Nuthatches.
We took advantage of the beautiful weather today and went over to Rotherham for a walk which included a couple of great wildlife spots. There wasn't a great deal to see today at the first one, but at the second, there was quite a lot of waterfowl, and staggering numbers of redwing and fieldfare - they really seem to have arrived in force and are making the most of the glut of berries of all kinds. This Nuthatch was on a makeshift feeder near a small church between the two locations. Well, me and nuthatches - I couldn't resist this great pose.
When I checked the local bird study group sightings for today, I had a brilliant surprise - Waxwings have arrived in the city!!!! About 20 were reported feeding at one of the most reliable urban locations. Here's hoping that more turn up, and that they stick around for a while.
