Pollokshields Burgh Hall from Maxwell Park

The Hall was designed by H.E Clifford, and opened in 1890 by Sir John Stirling Maxwell. Built in the Scottish Renaissance style as a Masonic meeting place, the building has many symbols carved into the stone and within the stained glass windows.

The red sandstone came from Ballochmyle in Ayrshire, and contrasts with the blond sandstone used in many of the surrounding villas.

It also served as a community meeting place for the Burgh of Pollokshields - the first garden suburb in Great Britain.
