An ordinary life....

Fire!

Backblip

Merry Christmas! :))

What a lovely day, despite poor Alan being loaded with the cold ( thankfully a dose of paracetamol and some inhaler last night at bed time meant he had a good night’s sleep.)

Downstairs by 10am ( a late start compared to some I know but bliss for me :) and we spent the rest of the morning opening all our pressies.

We did very well. Told you I'd been very good this year ;-))

Brunch of Bucks Fizz, toasted bagels, cream cheese and smoked salmon, more lounging about before finally getting showered and dressed at 3.30pm! Lazy gits.

Stuffed ourselves with so much turkey and all the trimmings we couldn’t manage any pudding! I can report though from yesterday’s blip, that my favourite of the three gins is the Oaked Highland Gin….so smooth and absolutely delish. No lemon though, doesn’t need anything except some tonic and ice.

Fab day but the best (?!) was yet to come.

All day we were building up to the lighting of our first fire in the open fire place.

Much anticipation and excitement….the fire was set, the kindling was laid and the logs were ready. David struck the match, touched the newspaper and within seconds there were beautiful flames dancing in the grate. Two logs added and the magic continued. The romantic crackling of the seasoned wood, the mesmerising flames, the smoke belching out of the fireplace and straight in to the room!!!!! What the feck? That shouldn’t be happening!

God I hope Santa’s not stuck up there!

David ran for the ash bucket and removed the logs with the tongs and took them outside to the garden and doused them under the outside tap. Windows and French doors were opened and candles hastily lit to try and rid the room of the smoke! It was honking!

Hmmm….not quite the romantic end to the day we had imagined!

Decided to leave investigations till tomorrow and decanted to the snug. Pass the gin please!!!

Hope you all had a wonderful day :) xxx
