The Edge of the Wold

Serendipity

Wifie with her beloved Gus tucked in against her leg, while Harri keeps an aloof distance. We had just arrived in Derby to visit my sister and family.

This is a back blip posted on 31 December. I couldn't let this day go without acknowledgement of an important anniversary. It was on this day in 2012 that Gus arrived in our household, after he and Wifie found each other on Arnside Knott two weeks before.

My approach to blipping is about serendipity. Go out, wait and see what happens, and hope that I have the camera pointed in the right direction at the right moment. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Wifie's first encounter with Gus was the ultimate in serendipity - she was taking a walk on her own over the Knott and he was there, somewhere he had never been before, and somewhere he was unlikely to ever visit again. It was love at first sight for both of them.

Gus has given a new purpose to my blipping. Almost all of my blips have been taken on walks with him, mostly over Arnside Knott and along the Kent estuary. What's more, he is the most photogenic gift any photographer could hope for. And he is the most gentle and adorable creature that anyone could share their life with.

Update on Gus's injury on the 28th - since I didn't blip on the 30th - he is much better today, and ran about like his normal self when we went out this morning.
