I went out to Veltigar farm in St Andrews parish because another glossy ibis has turned up there (the other is in Swannay). They are found on Europe's Mediterranean coast in summer but should be in Africa now. There has been a bit of an influx in the UK and Ireland recently with about 14 birds reported.
I found it immediately I got off the bus. The farmer was driving past and stopped. He insisted I walk up the farm drive to get a closer look- I think he was quite glad to have the bird on his field. I did so but flushed a pheasant which made the ibis fly off a little-it was nice to see it in flight. No chance of a decent image. I walked down to Deer Sound and took the image posted on the way.
