Goodbye 2013

Allendale in Northumberland says goodbye to the old year in traditional spectacular fashion with the annual Tar Bar'l Ceremony.

45 local men known as guisers have paraded around Allendale carrying burning barrels on their heads before gathering in the centre of the village to tip the barrels onto the bonfire.

Thankfully the weather gods smiled on them, the rain and high winds stopped, making it a much more enjoyable (and safer) night for everyone.

When you add some good friends and a few drinks to the tradition it has been a good night.
