No Escape

'Impolite'.

That's a good word to describe the people here.

'Wanton disregard for anyone other than themselves' works too. On a typical walk around the streets you will see people gobbing on the pavement, dropping rubbish everywhere and anywhere, driving like idiots, barging past anyone that gets in the way and generally just shouting their mouths when attempting to communicate.

We fancied a coffee and a sandwich from Costa but the smell of rancid cigarette smoke as people chuffed away indoors put me off. What is it about most smokers that they will only refrain from filthying up the air that other people share when they are made to do so under a ban? Why can't they think about others and just not do it without being forced not to?

As I type this, the most awful Arabic music (awful is a pretty good adjective to use for all Arabic music) you can imagine is playing at maximum volume from the flat just up the hall. It's so loud that I can feel the vibrations through the table I'm sitting at. They will of course not for one second think about their neighbours and how annoying it must be (especially for the couple with a baby next door).

People here seem to care very little for their fellow man but perhaps that's just a condition borne of living in a city with 20 million people for company.

Ach well, Lost Season 5 has just started on Showtime and I'm in serious danger of wetting myself with excitement.
