Comfort Food

2/365/2014

It was a cold, waiting-for-snow kind of day today.

Our school is off for a few more days so my husband and I took a trip to a H-Mart (a Korean grocery store about an hour away) to buy a special kimchee.

Our kids were also sick so I wanted to get some abalone to make porridge for the kiddos.

The trip was well worth it! We got all the things we needed and then some. Our dinner was Kalbi jjim (Korean short ribs), Abalone porridge (jook), doenjang jjigae (Korean soy bean paste stew) with new kimchee which was flown in from Korea (I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I saw the price at the check out line (it didn't have a price tag/sign).

All in all, we are grateful to have had many great comfort foods and each other on this snowy evening. Our kids loved the abalone porridge. And the kimchee was so refreshing!
If you want to try making the short ribs, here's a recipe (http://bit.ly/1eZ4e5e) I posted a while ago on Flickr.

Grateful.

Edit on January 3:
I discovered Cathaber's post on (http://www.blipfoto.com/entry/3797146) Sound Illustration challenge. What a great idea to put images and music together. So here's my music tag for this picture:

Cheek to Cheek Ella & Louis, although Eva Cassidy's rendition comes close!)

(since I'm a newb on Blip, I can't use links yet until I have 10 posts, lol!)
