Suddenly A Rainbow

A blustery, rainy day, and everyone was shuffling around town with that first-Monday-of-January melancholy setting in.

Then suddenly, a rainbow.

It was only there for a minute, and I was glad of the phone in my pocket to catch it.

A woman noticed my looking and tipped her head up to the sky, smiling with delight.

A few yards further on a family were pointing at the sky. "Look", they said to their children, "look".

It was just an ordinary rainbow, but it cracked the grimness of the day wide open.

Both the shift in the light, and the sharing of the moment, us all pointing at the sky, and breathing out "look".
