The same but different

I remember Sara Evans saying that the way to get better at portraits was to keep trying. So here he is again. It's also the only half-decent photo I took today.

We went to see the film Les Garçons et Guillaume, à table! this evening. It's written and directed by actor Guillaume Galliène, who also plays himself, and his mother. It's both funny and very touching -- based on his one-man stage show, it's an account of a young man struggling to define his sexuality. The title arises from his mother's habit of calling him and his two brothers to the table by saying, "Boys, and Guillaume, dinner's ready!" Young Guillaume is certainly eccentric and "girly", but it's not simply a coming-out tale, it's more complex than that, and the ending is quite surprising. We enjoyed it.

Afterwards we went to a restaurant we haven't tried before, La Roulotte. It's a tiny, shabby-chic sort of place, decorated with vague references to gipsy caravans -- only 16 covers, a staff of two, and a very short menu. It was a bit pricy for what you got, but the food was good, and unusual for France with its strong emphasis on vegetables. It was dimly lit, hence the photos I took were all pretty bad. I'm amazed this is so sharp, hand-held at 1/3 of a second!
