Breakfast is Served

Just under the green
canopy, millet and sun
flower seeds suffice.

My sparrow guests, of indeterminate species, would prefer breakfast ready at dawn. However, brunch is more of what they actually get. The feeder sits on the ground under the largest bougainvillea in the backyard. They seem to prefer the close protection of its branches. We have seen birds of prey scouting out the yard. One morning we found a sparrow's head lying on the ground, without a body anywhere to be seen. So, they are wise to take full advantage of the branches available over the feeder.
