Swimming

Today began the fall session of swim lessons, with A beginning Polar Bear and E beginning Penguin level. (The levels are Goldfish, Penguin, Otter, Seal, Polar Bear, and then Shark/swim team.) By the end of the 5-week session we always all three grow weary of the twice weekly ritual of changing in and out of swimsuits, and spending time in the chlorined aroma of the community center. But on the first day, spirits are high! The kids generally enjoy themselves and they have both made significant progress in water comfort/safety over the past two years. A began Goldfish at age 4, when we first moved to town, and she's done lessons consistently every spring and fall since, taking breaks in the winter and summer sessions. Aside from one parent/child session and reading books on the sidelines, E just joined in the fun last spring at age 3, the community center's minimum.
