@KevinFMcDermott is drawing on shipbuilding

Absent Voices is made up of eight very different visual artists and musicians. Some even do both music and art. They're that talented! (So they are!)

This ID card of yore belongs to one Kevin McDermott, who many might remember as the singer/songwriter behind The Kevin McDermott Orchestra.

Kevin and his band were signed to Island Records and enjoyed a considerable degree of success in the 1980s, but he is still working away, making sweet music.

Kevin's beautiful song, Voices (from his Wise to the Fade album) is Absent Voices official theme tune.

It's one of these songs that gets under your skin... just beautiful.

Kevin has unearthed all sorts of bits and pieces as he works his ideas through for Absent Voices. This is his ID card for the days when he worked with Clyde-based shipbuilders, Yarrow.

To this day, he has an abiding interest in maritime matters.

There will be an Absent Voices album and gigs which will talk out this interest as it relates to the sugar industry.

Watch this space.

Kevin is playing a gig on Thursday January 31st at Oran Mor as part of Glasgow's Celtic Connections Festival. For this special night, he is teaming up with former Pretenders guitarist Robbie McIntosh.
