The Bay

Walked around to Swanbister Bay first thing after breakfast. Again on the precept that the blue sky wouldn't hold for the day, and it hasn't. A light shower now with a biting south-east wind. Watched a couple of Loganair flights banking over Hoy and then come quite low over the Flow for their approach towards Kirkwall Airport. They were getting quite a buffeting.

This looks like a quiet bay, and so it is most of the year round. There is a jetty, sadly now falling into disrepair, where flying boats were stationed in WWII. There's also quite a lot of abandoned submarine net in the bay. A few Purple Sandpipers and Dunlin present, very pre-occupied amongst the big banks of sea weed.

Came home and was despatched to the shed to chop kindling for the week. CMC is busy making a sponge to take to tonight's dancing. She finished her jigsaw last night so she was back onto the fairisle.
