Water divining

Today we had a visit from a water borehole driller from North Devon who came to give an estimate with reference to sinking a borehole on our farm for a water supply. Our farm water bills are so high, our own private supply would quickly pay for itself.

Apparently we have a number of underground streams which T C found with his divining rod, not the old traditional hazel sticks but a modern model! It was quite exciting watching the rod spin round between his hands as he walked down the hill, and with the information he gained from the movement he could tell how many gallons an hour that particular water would provide and at what depth! No water no fee, so we are on! The only difficulty was to find an appropriate place as the water pump should be near an electricity supply and 50 metres from a cesspit - there are three by the clump of houses down our lane! TC will return in the spring when the ground is dry. He will probably drill between 100-200 feet downwards. All very exciting!
