The Edge of the Wold

The view from the Shore at Silverdale into the vast wet expanse of Morecambe Bay as the tide was rapidly ebbing, and the sun had just sunk into thick cloud sitting over the Irish Sea. A few redshanks were feeding on the mudflats as they emerged from the water, a black-headed gull flew low over the water. I don't come here often enough. Looking directly into the Bay it is much more birdy than the shore at Arnside on the Kent estuary where the sediments do not support the biomass and diversity of invertebrates that sustain big and varied populations of waterfowl.

Gus and I walked a long way today, while Wifie was on her Tai Chi weekend. I had decreased the sensitivity of the pedometer, though clearly far too much as it recorded a piffling mileage for all the soggy ground we splashed through. Gus has been feeling very loved after so many stars and hearts were bestowed on his blipversary portrait yesterday. When Wifie came home last night, she looked at the photo and said he was looking a bit melancollie, and in truth he did have that slightly worried look that he assumes when asked politely to stay. It is better to catch him unawares wearing his best collie smile.

Thank you to everyone who kindly commented, gave stars and hearts on the 1095. It is a challenge to say thank you in person, and will probably take me most of the week. The good thing is that I don't have to even think about another red balloon day for a minimum of a year.

ps Gus needs one more star to hit 400!
