Why would one wheel trim wind up in the canal?

Why do people throw things in the canal?

It's enough that things end up in there by accident, bottle balls, bits of wood and rope.

I suppose some things get dumped because they have been stolen and the thief can't be bothered to take them home.

A wheel trim?
