Dive 2009

MrsCyclops have been to the dive show in Birmingham most years since we started diving. We usually enjoy some of the talks, buy some bits'n'bobs and look at nice places to go diving. Twice when we have been overseas we have dived with centres we first met at the dive show.

This year we thought we'd do something different and we did a try dive in the technical pool using "rebreathers". With our normal diving gear, when your breathe out the air just get blown out into the water as bubbles. Rebreathers recycle the air, making it fit to breathe again by scrubbing out the carbon dioxide you breathe out and adding fresh oxygen to replace what you used. This makes them rather complicated and expensive, so even though they mean you can stay underwater longer and sneak up on fish (bubbles usually scare fish) we won't be switching to use them regularly any time soon.

The dive show weekend is also often a time to catch up with friends (we met a couple of folk we know there) and for a night or two in hotels and the odd meal out. Lovely mexican tonight. Now we're just chilling out looking forward to the extra sleep the clocks going back gives us!

Night night!
